High throughput lipidomics for cardiovascular disease: big data, better prediction and new biology
Dr. Corey Giles is Group Leader in the Metabolomics Laboratory at the Baker Heart & Diabetes Institute, where he investigates how lipid metabolism impacts cardiometabolic diseases, including type-2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and Alzheimer’s disease. He earned his PhD from Curtin University in 2019 and uses advanced high-throughput lipidomic profiling of large clinical and population cohorts. Through integration of lipidomic and genetic data, he aims to identify lipid metabolic pathways that are causal for cardiometabolic diseases, therefore revealing new therapeutic targets. His research is driven by a curiosity about the biochemical pathways underlying disease risk and a commitment to translating discoveries into meaningful health impact.
